After nearly a year of planning and design, ground breaking for the 59,000-square foot Spanish Fork Justice Center came in April 2007. The new structure sits on a seven-acre site and combines a state court facility with a municipal public safety building.

It is the first building of a master planned regional civic center that will also include a new city hall, city library, senior center and performing and visual arts center. The facility is comprised of two wings that are connected to a centrally-located prisoner receiving and holding area that serves both court and police activities.

Designed not only as a justice center, but also a “green” facility, the structure will use ground water and heat pumps for temperature control. Materials used for the facility reflect the local masonry tradition of the area, with a combination of brick and sandstone. The design of the building incorporates sustainable elements such as natural daylight and controlled high-efficiency artificial lighting to reduce its environmental impacts and ensure the long-term value of the facility.
