Groundbreaking took place on August 2011 on the long awaited, 160,000-square foot, state-of-the art, Provo Rec Center which replaced the old rec center that was constructed back in 1973. This beautiful new facility offers dozens of options to keep everyone entertained in engaged from child to senior. The facility features an indoor aquatic center with slides, waterfall, cliff, rock walls, and lazy river, splash pool, lap pool, aerobics pool, and competition pool. Outside all the water there are many other things to enjoy like running track, weight lifting equipment, fitness classes offered on the mezzanine with a basketball court below, an outdoor skate park, and the first city-owned basketball courts.
Several challenges were overcome during the course of the project including the relocation of an unmarked fiber optic line and an aggressive schedule requiring crews to work through the winter before the building was enclosed.
